Safely Packaged Bright LEDs

SCHOTT launches dust-tight, waterproof housing for the lighting used in production lines

Mainz (Germany), October 26, 2010 – SCHOTT has developed a standardized housing for IP65 applications for its “High Brightness LED Light Line” product range. Now, these light intensive, energy-efficient lighting solutions for industrial image processing can be used in dusty or humid manufacturing environments, for instance the pharmaceutical industry or in woodworking.

In order for electrical and electronic equipment to function properly under difficult environmental conditions, it has to be protected. For this reason, SCHOTT has developed an additional housing for its “High Brightness LED Light Line” product range that safely protects these lights from dust and humidity and meets all of the requirements of the International Protection Code IP65.

“This slim housing can be integrated into manufacturing systems rather easily and is easy to clean. In other words, it is ideally suited for use in the food, pharmaceutical, chemical and wood industry,” explains Sigurd Dressler, application engineer at SCHOTT Lighting and Imaging.

The current generation of the “High Brightness LED Light Line” from SCHOTT is available in air- and water-cooled versions. To start with, the optional IP65 housing is designed to accommodate the basic water-cooled version that comes in a length of 300 mm. Other versions are available upon request.

Existing lighting products from the SCHOTT “High Brightness LED Light Line” range can easily be retrofitted or replaced by new generation systems that come equipped with Rebel LEDs.

Rebel LEDs are much brighter than the COB (Chip on Board) or SMD (Surface Mounted Device) LEDs that are now being used and offer a cost advantage over COB versions. Thanks to its narrow package, the new Light Lines can be assembled for use in reflecting or diffuse applications in a rather flexible manner.

The power consumption of modern LED lighting is, at the most, half that of a fiber line light equipped with 150 watt halogen lamps. Whereas the light bulb needs to be changed after around 2,500 – 3,000 hours with a halogen light source, the lifespan of “High Brightness LED Light Line” products is approximately 50,000 hours.
